After Life Season 3: This Character Might Not Return In The Next Season

Let’s begin with addressing the elephant in the room which is,

WILL THERE BE AN AFTERLIFE SEASON 3?

Ricky Gervais, the writer and the main actor of the show is famous for his “two series rule”. However, owing to an overwhelming response on Season 2, Ricky is leaning towards the possibility of Season 3. In a video, Ricky explained the pressure of a follow-up but even so he would love to do another season if the overwhelming response carries forward. An official confirmation is yet to be released but we are holding on the possibility of Season 3.

Now that we have established the likelihood of another season. Let’s dive into:

WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN AFTERLIFE SEASON 3?

WARNING: Season 2 spoilers ahead!!

Season 2 concluded on an emotional note. Tony was in the process of grieving the loss of his wife when his father also dies. This becomes overbearing for Tony and then we witness him overdosing on pills and alcohol despite his dog’s attempt at stopping him. Luckily, Emma arrives to confess her feelings for him which saves Tony. He then puts those pills back in his pocket and exits the house with Emma.

WHAT DOES THIS SCENE MEAN FOR TONY’S FUTURE?

In an interview, Ricky mentioned that he was not keen on neat happy endings, that he preferred to not have an “end” for a season. He reiterated that a lot of people assumed that Ricky’s unhappiness had ended after the conclusion of Season 1 because he found a little joy. But, the waiter came back with a twist and surprised his fans.

Therefore, given his track history of surprising his viewers and his aversion to happy endings.

We suspect Tony might not return for another season. Ricky usually follows-up after a year of the supposed ending. We only saw Tony keeping the pills back in his pocket but what happens after is unknown. After all, it is not uncommon to kill off the protagonist of the show. Ricky is an unconventional writer and a man of reason, stretching a show for the sake of it is not his style. That being so, putting an end to Tony’s character will be killing two birds with one stone. Anyhow, all this is conjecture and nothing can be confirmed until the official updates.
