BEIRUT: 15 September
A fire erupted in a landmark building in central Beirut’s commercial district on Tuesday before being put out, a civil defense official and Reuters witnesses said.
The fire erupted in a futuristic seafront building that was close to completion after years of construction. Lebanese broadcaster al-Jadeed earlier showed images of smoke billowing from the building.
Reuters witness said part of one side of the building was smoldering as firefighters hosed it down. Last week, a big fire broke out at Beirut port, the scene of the catastrophic Aug. 4 port explosion.WIKIPEDIA
Previously, according to local media reports, the smoke covered the port, where a major fire broke out on September 10, on Saturday night, reports Xinhua news agency.
Civil defense teams have been staying at the port over the past two days since the blaze erupted at the port’s duty-free warehouse destroying food products, oil, tires, beauty products, clothes, shoes, home appliances and electric equipment.
